Fleas are pesky parasites that can infest our homes and pets, causing discomfort and potential health issues. If you're dealing with a flea problem, it's essential to take immediate action to eradicate them. In this blog post, we'll explore effective methods for treating fleas and regaining control over your environment.

          Identify the infestation:

Start by confirming the presence of fleas. Look for signs such as excessive scratching, flea dirt (black specks resembling pepper) on your pet's fur or bedding, and small, red bites on your own skin.

Dealing with a flea infestation can be a frustrating experience, but with the right approach, you can effectively eliminate these unwelcome pests. By following the steps outlined above, you can treat fleas on your pets and in your home, restoring peace and comfort to your environment. Remember, consistency and thoroughness are key to successfully treating and preventing future flea problems. If the infestation persists, consult a professional pest control service to assist you in resolving the issue.

          Treat your pet:

Consult your veterinarian for the best flea treatment options suitable for your pet. These may include topical treatments, oral medications, or flea collars. Follow the instructions carefully and administer the treatment as recommended.

          Vacuum thoroughly:

Vacuum all carpets, rugs, upholstery, and pet bedding to remove adult fleas, eggs, and larvae. Pay extra attention to areas where your pets spend the most time. Dispose of the vacuum bag immediately afterward.

          Wash bedding and fabrics:

Wash your pet's bedding, blankets, and any other fabric items they come into contact with using hot water. This helps kill fleas, larvae, and eggs. Dry them on high heat to ensure thorough elimination.

Use an effective flea spray or fogger to treat your home. Pay close attention to areas frequented by your pets, such as carpets, corners, and furniture. Follow the instructions on the product carefully, and consider evacuating the premises during the treatment process.

          Treat your home:

          Yard maintenance:

Trim your lawn and keep it well-maintained to deter fleas. Rake up leaves and debris regularly, as these can provide hiding spots for fleas. Consider using nematodes, a natural predator of fleas, in your yard to help control the population.

To prevent re-infestation, continue to treat your pet regularly with flea preventatives recommended by your veterinarian. Keep your home clean, vacuum frequently, and wash pet bedding regularly. Consider using flea control products, such as sprays or powders, as a preventive measure.

          Prevent future infestations:

Effective and Eco-Friendly Ways to Treat Bees and Wasps

Bees and wasps are essential pollinators and beneficial insects, playing a crucial role in our ecosystem. However, encounters with these buzzing creatures can sometimes lead to fear and discomfort. While it's important to respect their role, there are times when their presence near homes or populated areas becomes a concern. In such cases, it's crucial to adopt safe and eco-friendly methods to treat bees and wasps. This blog post will provide you with practical tips on how to handle these situations responsibly.

Before taking any action, it's important to differentiate between bees and wasps. Bees are generally less aggressive and only sting when provoked, while wasps can be more territorial and aggressive. Accurate identification will help you determine the best approach for treatment.

When it comes to treating bees and wasps, it's crucial to strike a balance between managing potential risks and preserving the important ecological role these insects play. By following the aforementioned eco-friendly methods, you can mitigate conflicts with bees and wasps while promoting their conservation. Remember, coexistence with these insects is not only possible but also vital for the well-being of our planet.

          Identify the Species:

          Prevention:

Preventing bee and wasp nests from forming near your living spaces is key. Seal any cracks or crevices in walls, doors, and windows, as these are common entry points. Keep trash cans tightly closed and clean up spills promptly, as sugary substances attract these insects.

If you encounter a bee swarm or hive on your property, consider contacting a local beekeeper or beekeeping association. They can safely relocate the bees, ensuring their preservation and allowing them to continue their vital pollination work elsewhere.

          Relocation:

          Natural Repellents:

To deter bees and wasps from frequenting specific areas, try natural repellents. Planting herbs such as mint, basil, and lemongrass can help repel them. Additionally, hanging fake wasp nests can create the illusion of an occupied territory, discouraging wasps from building nests nearby.

          DIY Traps:

For wasps, creating simple DIY traps can help control their population. One method involves cutting the top off a plastic bottle, inverting it, and filling the bottom with a sweet liquid or fruit juice. The wasps will be attracted to the scent, enter the trap, and struggle to escape.

          Professional Assistance:

If you're dealing with a large nest or an aggressive species, it's advisable to seek professional assistance. Pest control experts trained in the safe and humane removal of bees and wasps will ensure the job is done efficiently and with minimal harm to the insects.

Ticks, those tiny bloodsucking arachnids, are not only an annoyance but also potential carriers of diseases. With their prevalence in many regions, it's crucial to implement effective tick treatment strategies to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our pets. In this blog, we will explore some tried-and-tested methods for dealing with ticks and reducing the risks associated with their presence.

          Tick Prevention:

Prevention is always better than cure. Start by creating a tick-free environment around your home. Clear tall grasses, brush, and leaf piles where ticks tend to thrive. Regularly mow your lawn and maintain a well-trimmed landscape. Implement barriers like fences or gravel paths to keep wildlife, which often carry ticks, away from your living areas.

Dealing with ticks requires a multi-faceted approach involving prevention, personal protection, and diligent inspection. By implementing these strategies, you can significantly reduce your risk of tick-borne diseases and enjoy outdoor activities without worry. Stay informed about the prevalence of ticks in your area and be proactive in implementing the necessary measures to keep yourself, your family, and your pets safe. Remember, tick treatment is not a one-time affair but an ongoing commitment to ensure a tick-free environment.

          Personal Protection:

When venturing into tick-infested areas, take precautions to safeguard yourself. Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Tuck your pants into your socks or use elastic bands to prevent ticks from crawling up your legs. Apply insect repellents containing DEET on exposed skin, and treat your clothing with permethrin, an effective tick deterrent.

          Pet Protection:

Ticks pose a significant threat to our furry friends. Consult your veterinarian to determine the best tick prevention products for your pets. Options include spot-on treatments, tick collars, and oral medications. Regularly inspect and groom your pets, paying close attention to areas where ticks often hide, such as between toes, in the ears, and around the tail.

          Tick Removal:

Prompt removal of attached ticks is crucial to reduce the risk of disease transmission. Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin's surface as possible and pull it straight out with steady pressure. Avoid crushing the tick or leaving its mouthparts behind. After removal, clean the bite area with soap and water, and apply an antiseptic.

Consider utilizing tick control products to manage tick populations in your yard. Spraying or dusting targeted areas with insecticides can help eliminate ticks and reduce their numbers. Consult a professional exterminator for safe and effective options that won't harm the environment or other beneficial insects.

          Tick Control in the Yard:

Sugar ants, also known as odorous house ants, can quickly become a nuisance when they invade our homes in search of sugary treats. However, fret not! In this blog post, we'll explore some practical and eco-friendly ways to treat sugar ants and keep your home ant-free.

          Identify and eliminate food sources:

The first step in sugar ant control is to remove all potential food sources. Clean up spills, crumbs, and food residues, paying special attention to kitchen counters, floors, and pantry areas. Store food items in airtight containers, and make sure your trash cans have tightly sealed lids. Additionally, rinse containers and recyclables before disposing of them to eliminate any residual food odors.

          Seal entry points:

Sugar ants are tiny and can easily find their way into your home through even the smallest cracks and gaps. Inspect your doors, windows, and foundation for possible entry points and seal them using caulk or weatherstripping. Pay close attention to areas where pipes and utility lines enter your home, as these are common entry points for ants.

Many natural substances can act as deterrents against sugar ants. Sprinkle a line of cinnamon, black pepper, or coffee grounds near entry points to discourage ants from crossing the barrier. Vinegar and lemon juice are also effective at repelling ants. Mix equal parts vinegar and water, or lemon juice and water, and spray the solution along ant trails and entry points. These natural deterrents are safe to use around children and pets.

By following these simple steps to treat sugar ants, you can regain control of your home and enjoy an ant-free environment. Terro has some great products that we recommend to control and prevent further activity. Remember, prevention is key to long-term ant control, so maintaining cleanliness and practicing good food storage habits will help keep these tiny intruders at bay. With a little effort and some natural remedies, you can bid farewell to sugar ants and reclaim your home sweet home!

Eastern subterranean termites can wreak havoc on your property, causing extensive damage and financial loss if left untreated. These elusive pests are known for their ability to nest underground, making early detection and proper treatment crucial. In this blog post, we will explore some effective methods for treating eastern subterranean termites and protecting your home.

          Inspection and Detection:

The first step in addressing a termite infestation is a thorough inspection by a trained professional from Next Level Pest Services. Termite experts can identify signs of termite activity, such as mud tubes, damaged wood, or discarded wings. Advanced technologies like thermal imaging cameras can also aid in locating termite colonies within walls or hidden areas. Detecting the infestation early on allows for targeted treatment, preventing further damage.

          Chemical Barriers:

Chemical barriers are one of the most commonly used methods for treating eastern subterranean termites. Soil-applied liquid termiticides are used to create a protective barrier around the perimeter of the building, preventing termites from accessing the structure. The termiticide is typically applied to the soil near the foundation, and it acts as a repellent or kills termites on contact. Regular inspections and maintenance are necessary to ensure the barrier remains effective.

Baiting systems have gained popularity as an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional chemical treatments. These systems consist of underground stations containing cellulose-based baits that are highly attractive to termites. Once termites start feeding on the bait, it is replaced with a slow-acting termiticide that they carry back to the colony, gradually eliminating it. Baiting systems require ongoing monitoring and maintenance to ensure optimal effectiveness.

Treating eastern subterranean termites requires a comprehensive approach that combines careful inspection, effective treatment methods, and ongoing maintenance. Whether you opt for chemical barriers or baiting systems, consulting with a professional termite exterminator from Next Level Pest Services is vital to ensure the appropriate treatment for your situation. By taking proactive measures to combat these destructive pests, you can safeguard your home from potential damage and maintain its structural integrity for years to come.

Yes, it is time for the mosquitoes to come out and play. And by play, I mean suck your blood. Now the problem with this scenario boys and girls, is that mosquitoes can ingest dangerous pathogens and then transfer those to us. I think we can agree that that is not good for any of us here in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Because mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon dioxide we give off, being outside, especially at dusk or dawn, means you are bound to encounter these nuisances.

With a range of 300 feet to 3 miles, depending on the species, mosquitoes can effectively populate a large area. They can breed in almost any standing water. When it rains, that can include bird baths, old tires, clogged gutters, and even that bottle cap left outside after a Saturday night barbecue. In a two week period, just a single female mosquito can lay anywhere from 50 to 500 eggs per brood and have as many as 10 broods in a lifetime. Exponentially, you can see how quickly things can get out of hand.

If you are having issues inside your home, the first step to eliminating mosquitoes is exclusion. Exclusion means making sure you have addressed any area of your home that is exposed to the outdoors. A tear in a window screen or a missing piece of weather stripping on your back door, can allow for these pests and others to enter your home. The next step is effectively removing any standing water around your home. If your issue remains, then using a liquid treatment is advised. These liquid treatments can be in the form of organics, such as peppermint oil, or pesticides, such as insect growth regulator. Mosquitoes tend to hide on the bottom side of any leafy vegetation, so it is best to make sure you treat these areas thoroughly. If you have a heavy infestation, it may be best to consult a pest control professional.

No matter how hard you try. No matter how much you want to get rid of insects, there is no true elimination. They will find a way. And where there is a will there is an insect bite. My girlfriend is a magnet for biting insects. Whether it be mosquitoes or ants, she will inevitably get bit. Going to the lake every summer is always an adventure in insect bite prevention and then treatment. She says its because she’s sweet but the jury is still out on that one.

Living in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is the same as anywhere else in Texas regarding the sheer number of insects. Getting bit might as well be a right of passage to citizenship. Now when you get bit you experience the usual symptoms. These symptoms include redness, swelling, and itchiness. There are however more severe reactions to a bite. Please contact your doctor if you experience fever, headaches, or infection.

Prevention is key to avoiding these bites. Over the counter repellents can work as can protective clothing. Regular pest control treatments will help too as will exclusion. But in the end, there is always that chance of a bite. I explained multiple treatment options regarding mosquitoes and ants in my other posts. Please refer to them if you have questions about prevention.

My girlfriend’s symptoms are usually mild after a bite. Redness and itchiness are always present, so she has taken to using After Bite that helps with inflammation. While it is technically not designed for insect bites, it works wonders in reducing the inflammation that comes with the bite.

There I was just standing there and then suddenly my foot is on fire. Sadly, I did not spontaneously combust, I was just being stung by fire ants. Almost everyone in Texas can relate to this story. And because a fire ant mound is mostly underground, you never see them coming. A single mound can contain anywhere between 100,000 and 500,000 ants. They are literally everywhere, so watch your back…and step.

Fire ants are classified as budding insects. Basically, this means that a colony may contain more than one queen. A single queen can lay up to 1,500 eggs a day. Now once the population of a colony reaches a certain point, queens can branch out into satellite colonies. Say you look out into your backyard one day and you see a mound. And then two days later you look again and see three mounds. Those two other mounds are satellite colonies. Because of this rapid expansion, treatment of your yard is paramount. There are two ways to effectively treat a fire ant mound: mound drenching and broadcasting granules.

The most direct way to treat is mound drenching. Just spray the mound with a pesticide labeled for fire ants to the point of runoff. My suggestion though is to broadcast granules. If you live in a subdivision, the hardest part about treating for pests are your neighbors, and this is especially true regarding fire ants. You may be treating but if your neighbor is not, you may still see fire ants in the form of satellite colonies. This is where the granules come into play. Broadcasting will help treat these satellite colonies before they expand into your backyard. Protein based granules are preferred based on fire ant dietary needs. Extinguish is a product I recommend. The overall goal of treatment is prevention. Especially, if you are allergic, as a fire ant sting can cause anaphylaxis. If your issue persists, contact a pest control professional.
